Today's topic is Reviews (FUK IT CUZ MY STUPID SKIN CANT DISPLAY), im gonna give reviews on anything and everything silly and interesting that happened recently in my undulating life.

Movies 1st.... i don know what's happen to me, but im starting to embrace extravagant movies. it's always in me that i love such genre, thanks to Crouching Tiger.

Went with all enthusiasm to get Banquet's VCD, start it spinning. It started as super artsy, and the movie's directing was wonderful, fantastic movie set and choreography. it definitely twist and stretch ur perception of old days chinese dynasty from old and boring to slick and modern. I mean rusted green and white, red and with tinches of gold... woo. applaud the director's effort to create an artsy feeling with character's lines. and it definitely is grows deep into ppl. Choice line includes 'She won't know, if one person knows another, it won't be called lonely...'. The movie was wonderfully executed but i thought there's some conflict with ZIYI's portray of the love-stricken Queen, it felt as if she was power-hungry towards the end of the show, kudos to her for being such a gorgeous Queen tho. The show ended abruptly with a knife impaled into Ziyi's chest, leaving room for imagination. Yes it is intriguing and at the same time, a stupid move. mainly because of the story did not manage to develop deep enuff unlike it's original counterpart 'Hamlett'. the movie felt rushed. A beautiful banquet it is, but bad dish and service it serves.

Banquet's rival 'Curse of Golden Flower' is the direct opposite, it is lavish and extravagant, almost too extravagant, making it a little old (Yes it does feel that any other high budget china produced drama). GOLD GOLD AND MORE GOLD! freaky. Cinematography wise, it does match up to Lord of the Rings for the stateliness, but a little subtlety like Banquet may actually proves as a better feast for the eye. Compared to Banquet, it constitutes stellar casts that doesn't disappoint, almost perfect acting. the movie gives lots of room for the story to grow and develop. Story ended almost simliar to Banquet (everyone dies... well almost), and finishing as slowly Gong Li's final hurl at the bowl of venomous medicine, leaves room for viewers imagination to what actually happens to her and Chow.

Almost a direct lift of their original counterparts, both films prove to be just as commercial-frenly even for their heavy bow towards the Artsy side. I would love to say i prefer banquet for it artsy touch and slick lines, but i thought Golden Flower carries a better storyline and grows deep. I would go for the storyline rather than super slick delivery.

Banquet - 3 1/2 Stars - Verdict: Go for it if u are easily conquered by wonderous cinematography.
Curse of Golden Flower - 3 1/2 Stars - Verdict: Go for it if u wanna see Jay Chou die for a wonderful storyline.
